Revelation is a literary mosaic of images borrowed from ancient Jewish writings, collected together to energize the church during a period of domination under Roman rule. Though many turn to Revelation to find graphic and horrific speculation about the future, the real message of Revelation is one of encouragement and hope, looking toward God's ultimate victory over evil and suffering.
