A Brief Look Back…
In 1959, the Methodist Union purchased three acres of land for a new Methodist Church in Madison on the corner of South Hill Rd. and Rosa Rd.


  • 1962: Asbury organized with 29 members, meeting at the West Side Businessmen’s Association, at that time located on the corner of Whitney Way and Odana Rd. In the fall they moved to St. Dunstans.
  • 1963: The name changed from Faircrest (after proposed subdivision) to Asbury.
  • 1966: Building Committee plans overall building plan with first stage built in 1967.
  • 1981: Addition of new sanctuary and classrooms to S. Hill Dr. location
  • 1982: Consecration of new sanctuary
  • 1987: 25th Anniversary, May 3 (membership 388)
  • 1992: August 2nd - moved to current location 6101 University Ave.
  • 1999: Groundbreaking for New Sanctuary, Parking, and Remodeling.
  • 2000: Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000 New Sanctuary Opened! Remodeling of the old Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall and office space begins.
  • 2001: Remodeling completed. Administrative re-structuring put in place with coaches and teams.
  • 2002: Asbury celebrates 40th anniversary. Fireside Room, lower level education and gym painting remodeling completed. Membership 1020.
  • 2004: Verona New Church Start. Opening worship set for Easter 2005. Contemporary worship added as 3rd service.
  • 2005: Sugar River UMC meets weekly in Verona.
  • 2006: Sugar River Celebrates 1st anniversary.
  • 2009: Sugar River Chartered.
  • 2009: Worship times moved to 9 & 10:30 a.m. (Traditional & Contemporary)
