Asbury Clown Ministry
Have you ever thought of becoming a clown? The Asbury
Clown ministry group is looking for new people to join
with us in our activities. Clown ministry does not
necessarily require formal entertainer training. The main
requirement is a love of God and a desire to add some joy
to the lives of others.
Our activities include performing skits and longer
programs for church services at Asbury and other
churches, visiting nursing homes and hospitals, and
entertaining at a variety of church functions.
We meet on Sunday evenings at Asbury during the school
year to work on our clown skills and to prepare
liturgical programs.
Schedule
- Saturday, July 17th, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. - we will be performing as walkaround clowns from 10:00 until 3:00 at the Sonic on West University Drive as part of the Asbury Community Day. There will be other folks there from Asbury as well giving out sonic burgers compliments of Asbury. - Sunday July 17th - we have been invited to attend the Happy's Clown Club pot luck at Bev Back's house at 4313 School Road in Madison. The event starts at 4:30 with dinner at 5:30. If you plan on going please let me know so that I can give Bev a head count for their event. I'll be at the event..
- Sunday, July 25th. - We will do a children's story for the Asbury Sunday morning worship service at 9:00 and 10:30. The topic for the day is meeting God again for the first time. The sermon will be based on someone who was an active Christian, became less active and then returned to being more active.
- August 1st - we have been invited to provide walkaround clowning for the Asbury Big Event at 11:30 at Asbury. There will be a picnic and inflatable games at Asbury as well. Please let Leonardo know if you can help with this event. His number is 256-4161. I'll be out of the country.
- August 8th - we will be presenting a children's story at the 9:00 and 10:30 services at Asbury. Ed Emmons is preaching, so we will get the sermon topic from him.

Meet The Asbury Clowns
- Andy "Professor Pi" Alles Clowning or being a clown has occurred all my life telling jokes and puns. Everyday I seek some small way to brighten another person's life. My first opportunity to clown with other clowns was in 1997 upon hearing of a Clown Ministry group in a Green Bay church. Unfortunately a month later, my job was eliminated and I had to move. Then I moved to Madison and had the good fortune of meeting Deanna Lowenhagen, Dottie, in 2001. She became my mentor and friend. Also over the years I took four improvisation classes, two twisting balloon seminars, and attende seven years at Clown Camp in La Crosse WI. Performances have included festivals, parades, picnics, church events, teaching classes, grand openings, and corporate events. To me, clowning is educational, satisfying, and fun.
